OMNITEC-Managed NDAR Database Now
Largest Source of Autism
Research Data to Date
Bethesda, Maryland (January 10, 2012)
– The National Database for Autism Research (NDAR), managed by OMNITEC
Solutions, has been selected by the National Institute of Mental Health
(NIMH) as one of its Top 10 Research Events and Advances of 2011. This
annual award honors 10 breakthrough discoveries and scientific progress
that are changing the landscape of mental health research, making a
difference for those with mental illness.
The largest database of its kind, NDAR’s mission is to accelerate
discovery in autism research. NDAR (see http://ndar.nih.gov), managed
by an OMNITEC team led by Dan Hall, serves a dual purpose as a data
repository of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) studies and as a portal
facilitating collaboration among ASD researchers by providing open
access to these studies conducted through the auspices of National
Institutes of Health (NIH) and external resources. Approved users have
unprecedented access to data from the 25,000 research participants
represented in NDAR, as well as 2,500 Autism Genetic Resource Exchange
(AGRE) families and more than 7,500 participants who have reported
their own information to the Kennedy Krieger Institute’s Interactive
Autism Network (IAN).
OMNITEC Program Manager Hall declared that “it’s truly gratifying that
our team has contributed to the effort helping the NIH to harmonize and
share ASD data, transforming the very way in which autism research is
conducted.” The OMNITEC NDAR team includes Eric Stanton, Tim
Wolfe, Sveta Novikova, Brain Koser, Michael Martin, Patrick McKenna,
Gretchen Navidi, Chelsea Shugars, and Eric Watson. Since its launch,
NDAR has set a new model for data sharing and collaborative research,
applicable to many other scientific research communities. Morris L.
Brown, President of OMNITEC Solutions, stated: “I am proud of our role
in facilitating data sharing and scientific collaboration on such a
broad scale, helping advance scientific discovery.”
Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., OMNITEC Solutions, Inc., provides a

HHS Secretary Picks OMNITEC-Led Project for 2011 Innovation Award
BETHESDA, MARYLAND (September 30, 2011)
– OMNITEC Solutions Inc. joins with U.S. Health and Human Services
(HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in applauding the innovative team
responsible for the success of the National Database for Autism
Research (NDAR). The NDAR portal is managed by an OMNITEC team
led by Dan Hall
“We are honored to be a part of this groundbreaking project and believe
the work being done by this joint team from HHS and OMNITEC deserves
high praise,” said Morris L. Brown, President of OMNITEC
Solutions. “The success of NDAR will be measured both in helping
advance autism research that this portal is facilitating, and serving
as a model for scientific collaboration within other government
programs.”
In announcing NDAR (http://ndar.nih.gov)
as an innovation winner, HHS Secretary Sebelius said the HHSinnovates program is part of an
HHS-wide initiative “to build a constant thrust of innovation into the
everyday operations of our health and human services agencies.”
Participating in the awards ceremony with Secretary Sebelius was the
Director of the Office of Personnel Management John Berry who said that
“High-performance government means giving our employees the opportunity
to create and invent and serve the American people.”
Complementing the OMNITEC team, NDAR program manager Hall said “the
success of the NDAR is due to the tireless efforts of all of the
OMNITEC employees devoted to this project. This was a team
effort. Each member of the OMNITEC team deserves high praise and
shares in this Innovation Award.” The OMNITEC NDAR team includes
Eric Stanton, Tim Wolfe, Sveta Novikova, Brian Koser, Stephen Varga.
Michael Martin, Gretchen Navidi and Chelsea Shugars,
The HHSinnovates program was
launched in 2010 to “semiannually recognize outstanding innovation
efforts throughout the agencies of the department. After an
initial review process, the best candidates were submitted through an
open web-based process and then put up for a vote using a secure
intranet site.” The voting process is open to all HHS
employees. Winners are chosen based on both
innovativeness and applicability for use by programs within HHS and
throughout the federal government.
NDAR serves the dual purpose as a data repository of Autism Spectrum
Disorder (ASD) studies and as a portal encouraging collaboration among
ASD researchers by providing open access these studies conducted
through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and external
resources. The mission of NDAR is to provide a comprehensive
resource for sharing data in support of advancing scientific
discovery.
In the HHS news release on the innovation award http://www.hhs.gov/news/press/2011pres/09/20110926a.html,
NDAR was highlighted for its innovativeness in creating an environment
that “could transform the very way that ASD research is conducted: it
allows researchers to ask new types of questions and quickly combine
information in novel ways to develop answers. NDAR is a versatile
platform that is highly extensible to other domains beyond ASD research
with the potential to save millions of dollars that would otherwise be
spent funding data acquisition or developing a similar platform.”

OMNITEC Solutions: a Pivotal Partner in Advancing Social Media Practices at DoD
(October, 2010) Department of Defense and OMNITEC Solutions share 3 recent success.
OMNITEC Solutions has been at the forefront of designing and implementing social media initiatives for its clients. The Social Media Hub (http://socialmedia.defense.gov/) recently launched by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) was built by the OMNITEC Defense Media Activity team. This unique Social Media Hub serves as a central location for learning more about social media and the how it is used by the different services, with quick links to each of the service’s social media sites.
The Social Media Hub features social media policies and procedures, best practices, tips and tricks, frequently asked questions and training manuals. Each of the services has a dedicated page on the Hub linking to a registration page and various service-specific resources. A discussion board provides a forum for asking questions and sharing ideas.
One of OMNITEC’s own, Dr. John Ohab, launched and runs the award-winning Armed with Science blog and podcast (http://science.dodlive.mil), a social media project that, according to the blog “highlights the critical role of science and technology in military operations while demonstrating how research conducted to meet military requirements often benefits society as a whole.” Armed with Science creates a direct interface between DoD scientists and engineers and the general public. These subject matter experts are the primary communicators showcasing cutting-edge research and development at DoD. The blog and also serves as a testing ground for exploring new social media technologies.
The Armed with Science blog is one of 63 blogs that OMNITEC built, maintains and troubleshoots for the DoD. Originally a podcast hosted by Dr. Ohab, Armed with Science expanded into a blog in January 2010. Armed with Science is the most heavily trafficked DoD blog and been has been recognized with four prestigious awards: National Association of Government Communicators Blue Pencil Award of Excellence and the Hive Award for Best Podcast in 2010; and PR News Non-Profit PR Award and APEX Award for Publication Excellence in 2009.
OMNITEC Defense Media Activity team is also the chief architect behind the newly redesigned official Website of the Department of Defense, www.Defense.gov. Essentially two Websites, Defense.gov speaks to the needs of two separate audiences – General Public and Defense Community. From the homepage, visitors are given the option to view the General Public or the Defense Community version of the Website. Highlights on both Websites include a Twitter box on the homepage that features the latest tweets from DoD leaders. A major milestone is the comprehensive DoD organizational chart that was a huge undertaking and significant accomplishment of the OMNITEC team. Under the “About DoD” main navigation menu is a link to the DoD organizational chart showing the structure and relationships between the DoD organizations. The complete overhaul of the DoD Website followed extensive research, surveys, web statistics, user testing sessions and conducted by the OMNITEC team who analyzed all the input and advanced a recommendation for rebuilding the DoD’s official online presence.

OMNITEC Solutions writes, develops, and produces first SPAWAR technical vision document: Naval IT, C4ISR, Space Systems, and Enterprise Support: Today and Tomorrow
(October 2009)
OMNITEC Solutions helped create, develop, and produce Naval IT, C4ISR, Space Systems,
and Enterprise Support: Today and Tomorrow, the first
technical vision document for the Navy's Command, Control,
Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and
Reconnaissance (C4ISR)/business Information Technology (IT)/space
systems community. OMNITEC writers, graphic designers, photographers,
analysts, and project managers with specialized background, talent, and
experience worked collaboratively with personnel at the Space and Naval
Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) and the Naval NETWAR (Network
Warfare)/FORCEnet Enterprise (NNFE) over a period of 18 months to
capture the critical role played by advanced communications and
information in successful military operations. The document showcases
the roles played by C4ISR, IT, and space systems professionals, their
products, and their future as a community.
Charged with articulating complex ideas, technologies, and visionary
strategies from a variety of diverse information-centric communities,
the OMNITEC team worked side-by-side with personnel from Team SPAWAR,
the Program Executive Office (PEO) for C4I, the PEO for Space Systems,
the PEO for Enterprise Information Systems, and the PEO for the Joint
Tactical Radio System. They also worked with the Marine Corps Systems
Command, Naval Network Warfare Command, Navy and Marine Corps
Headquarters Staffs, and other elements of the Navy and Marine Corps to
produce this document.
Naval IT, C4ISR, Space
Systems, and Enterprise Support: Today and Tomorrow
reveals the profound, rapid IT-driven transformation of military
strategy and operations, similar to the revolution taking place across
many segments of civilian society. The document provides insight into
the value of behind-the-scenes, end-to-end systems engineering which
delivers integrated solutions to meet naval operational needs--work
that is often unheralded, yet vital to connecting network architectures
for improved battle space awareness. This first-of-a-kind technical
vision emphasizes the power of platform-independent C4ISR professionals
partnered across multiple agencies and services (both military and
civilian) to deliver "change at network speed," rapidly fielding
warfighter and business infrastructure capabilities where they are
needed most.
The design and creation of long-range strategic communication products,
such as this technical vision document, is one of OMNITEC's core
capabilities. Another example is the Naval Aviation Vision document http://nae.ahf.nmci.navy.mil/
produced biennially by OMNITEC on behalf of the Naval Aviation
Enterprise and Commander, Naval Air Forces. A new release of this
document is expected in January 2010. OMNITEC employees plan, write,
edit, illustrate, and produce a wide range of strategic and tactical

OMNITEC Solutions recognized for role in a client’s accomplishments.
Continually recognized as the bench mark for federal agencies looking to fully maximize content delivery & dissemination, www.pentagonchannel.com was recently featured in the May, 2007 edition of a leading on-line federal trade magazine, Government Video.
In what is a true testament to OMNITEC’s continually expanding capabilities and reputation for delivering the most effective web & internet enabled solutions to our clients, this DOD client continues to be recognized for ground breaking functionalities and deliverables to his end users and constituents.
While the entire article can be viewed at: http://governmentvideo.com/articles/publish/article_1161.shtml, OMNITEC is particularly proud of the below highlights from the article. It should be noted that OMNITEC Developers and System Administrators installed, integrated, and tested the new Flash 8 tool referenced below, and at that time in May, 2007, and the site was one of only a very few broadcasting with this technology.
"We put so much content on the old Web site that it became very complicated to use, while searching for specific content in our video library was almost impossible," explained Brian Natwick, the Pentagon Channel's general manager. "In contrast, our new site is very intuitive and easy to use. There's no learning curve.”
“Plus, the extensive metadata that is attached to each video file makes detailed searching simple. For instance, you can search for video clips using broad queries such as 'SecDef Gates,' or drill down by linking this query with specific locations, topics, and dates."
Mr. Natwick credits the Pentagon Channel's ability to play in any browser to Adobe Flash, the streaming software that doesn't require a standalone player like Windows Media, QuickTime, and Real. "Flash frees our users from having to load specific proprietary players, and it also punches through firewalls because it uses port 80," Natwick said. "This ensures that many more surfers can see our content. In contrast, non-port 80 technologies such as Windows Media, QuickTime, and Real streams are often blocked by firewalls."
The Pentagon Channel's upgrade was executed by its system integrator, OMNITEC Solutions.
