July 20, 2018 – The U.S. Navy awarded OMNITEC Solutions, Inc. of Bethesda, MD with an engineering services contract to continue and expand development and maintenance of all unclassified video systems onboard all of the Navy’s ships. This new contract, with a potential value of more than $34M over five years, covers the design, integration, installation and life-cycle support for the Navy’s shipboard unclassified video systems.
The contract includes design/development efforts to evolve legacy video distribution systems from RF technology to IP-based video distribution, redesign the video playback and production systems, and expand the use of surveillance cameras for ships operations and force protection.
According to Peter Carlson, OMNITEC’s Executive VP of Media, Engineering and Technical Services division, “Providing live entertainment, news and sports programming to sailors and Marines aboard ships deployed around the world delivers tremendous quality of life enhancement, while the new systems OMNITEC is developing will bring more enhanced programming and features, with greater reliability.”
OMNITEC will also provide shipboard technical assistance directly to the ships, repair and refurbishment of shipboard systems, and maintenance of the Navy’s inventory of spare and repair parts.
The work will be performed at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, DC and from government facilities in Norfolk, VA and San Diego, CA.
